I have a L3240 w/724 loader I purchased the L2222 3rd funtion kit to install myself. I question if I have the right kit because I don't seem to have the return to tank pipe that they show in the instructions. If anyone can shed some light on this I would be grateful.

My suggestion is for you to go to your dealer and ask for the Assembly Instructions for your loader.
These instructions will contain much more complete installation details for your third function kit.
I have attached the instructions for a LA534 for you get a better idea of what I am suggesting.

To replace or add? Usually the third function kit is adding the to tank line.
In theory you should be breaking into the circuit for PB. One source and return. Plus the addition of a to tank line. Mine had 3 lines to install on my l3560. The only time it gets complex is when you have something utilizing the PB already, like a backhoe.

I took a quick look and it looks like there are different variants of the L3240. Also, the L2222 kit is for the CAB model (L2221 for the ROPS model). Do you have the ROPS or CAB model?
I have a hst-3cab I don't know if the difference in the PTO is the difference or what. The instructions tell you to replace the return to tank line with a new one with a fitting taped into it for the hose from the new valve. The line doesn't exist.
