if you go 'saltwater' your electric bill will go up ! It's takes a LOT of electrons to break NaCl into Na and Cl.

if I still had my pool, I'd be tossing some 'water softener' pellets into the skimmer every few days...
same result but a lot cheaper (aka FREE ).

ALL the 'saltwater' pool systems up here use low voltage high amp power to breakdown the salts in a 'cell'
typical unit...

$2500 CDN....

Ah well, you choose your expenditures and how labor intensive pool upkeep is. No matter what, you have to monitor it and vacuum it.

With a fresh water pool, buying pool acid and chlorine and etc means a trip to the store or an online order. Then you have to test your water often and pour in the chemicals. You count the cost.

With a saltwater pool your electric bill may go up a few bucks but that's the price of lower maintenance.

It depends on the OP's interest in having a pool to maintain more aggressively or more passively.
