Good morning,
Is any "universal" hydraulic oil okay to use? There is sparse information available that I can find and I know next to nothing about hydraulic systems. I watched Vic's video about hydro/gear oils and would use the Walmart TDH he recommends, but I couldn't find it at my nearest location. I have a Farm & Fleet nearby that has their own brand of Universal Hydraulic Tractor Fluid ( http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/481440-universal_hydraulic_tractor_fluid.html#.UGXR-Bh1MQU )

I'm wondering if that would be suitable for use in the L185F? Any insights are appreciated.

Thank you

Tractor Suppy has a "Travellers" brand that states it meets Kubota's requirements at 1/2 the price of Kubota's UDT trans fluid which is what I used. However, my tractor is 8 years old and the warranty long past otherwise I would stick with Kubota products.

What does that mean? Did you just quit caring about your Kubota because it's 8 yrs old or what?

Warranty has nothing to do with what type oil is used unless they give it to you.

Dealer said when we bought ours to stick with Kubota lubricants. He said if we returned the tractor for service under warranty that they would "stick test" a sample of the oil and if the oil wasn't their brand, the warranty was voided. Could have been blowing smoke but we didn't want to test it.

Now that it is out of warranty, we run after market lubricants.

They were blowing major smoke. Unless they give you their brand oil for free it's against the law for them to require a certain brand of oil. All you have the do is use a product that meets the manufacturer's requirements.

You are protected by federal law, Magnuson-Moss Act, enacted in 1975.
