I am a novice tractor owner and just started my install of a 3rd function kit on a M7060. I decided to mount all of the equipment before making the hose connections. Kinda of nervous about screwing the connections up since I only have the loader manual diagrams as a guide.

My 1st question is, what connections get Teflon tape? Using this photo as a reference, it seems that beveled fittings do not get taped, is that correct?

2nd question is - Is there any reason that you shouldn’t thread the kit on/off switch through the plugged hole on the side of the stick console?

Any guidance would be appreciated, thank you.

I don't use Teflon tape at all on any hydraulics. I use only pipe dope, and very sparingly on the threads only when necessary. Many of the fittings seal by pressure and not the threads, so no forms of sealant are necessary. Use a paint marking stick to identify both ends of the hoses, so you know exactly where each one is going and coming from. You can use letters, numbers, or similar marks that will mean something to you, but not necessarily anyone else. I have about 5 or 6 different color sticks that I use, just like Kubota does on assembly.

Only NPT (National Pipe Thread) gets sealant and be careful not to get any into the fluid stream.
In my photo is the capped side on the right with Teflon tape NPT then?

Capped? What I see is a bulkhead union with a JIC male and a hex of unknown type. My guess based on the application is the hex is a female NPTF fitting intended for use with a hose with male NPTF ends. That connection would require a thread sealant. If it is in fact a cap the bulkhead fitting is likely another male JIC fitting and no sealant is needed.

NPT is usually used on rubber hose ends and they usually join the flat-faced couplers to the rubber hose.

I'm just wondering, as long as you don't get thread sealant in the stream, does it matter if you put thread sealant on flared connections threads? You can say it is a waste of sealant, but does it hurt anything?

I'm not a mechanic or an engineer, so just trying to gain an understanding of why it is bad? Not needed, I understand. Does it hurt anything is my question?

If nothing else it makes you look clueless. When I see an instructional video with a guy explaining how to install hydraulics and he puts thread sealant on a JIC, ORB, or pipe swivel joint he immediately goes into the untrustworthy bin.

It does nothing useful, makes a mess, and alters tightening torques. There is no more reason to do it than there is to put it on ordinary hex bolts you install. So knowing better why do it?

It is like wearing a rain suit to the beach on a sunny 95-degree day. It makes you look foolish and out of place, like you haven't a clue what you are doing or why you are doing it. I thought of other examples, but I don't want to get banned!

So, it hurts nothing, that is good to know.

It might hurt your pride when others look at it and wonder why and laugh.
If I make someone laugh, it is a good day. Life is to short not to laugh.

As long as nothing is being damaged, my pride can take it. I've been married to long and getting to old to let pride be an issue. :)

Plus, if I go to the beach dressed like this, why would someone laughing at my hoses hurt my pride.
