Morning all,
BL4590- Did the boom swing Cyl. No issues. she's going on 30 years so I'm just doing the other cyls since it's in the shop and winter outside.

In the two pics, all of the cyl's have this funny lever(ish) looking thing on the side, (in pic) AND, the seals kit came with a long square end tool (pic 2). What (if anything) do I need to do w/ this side thing? And is the tool for that or something else...
This will be my 2nd and 3rd Cyls. learning as I go.

Like Dave said, that square stock is pushed through the opening to lock the cylinder in place. It simply curves (bends) as you push it in. To get the old piece out, you can grab the extended hook you can see with a vice grips and tap it out. It will uncurl as it comes out..

Here are a few pictures from a cylinder I modified with the same retainer design you have. Maybe they will help. I will add it is a good idea to antiseize the retainer to aid in future removal.

GREAT idea on the anti-seize. Everything's apart. Easy-breezy so far! in a word - 'contaminated' Glad I elected to pull the stabilizers apart.
