I mowed my pasture for 5 hrs. and when I stopped and put my tractor up, the key was so hot it burnt my fingers. I noticed the hot metal around the key and found all the hyd. metal lines etc. extremely hot. I cleaned the radiator and radiator screen today and mowed for hr. and it seemed to start heating up again. I live in east texas where we have had a lot of rain and the grass is extremely thick so the tractor is working hard but I have never noticed this heat before. Any ideas.

What size/type cutter were you utilizing(3 pt or towed)? I wonder if hyd hyd relief wasn't seating correctly?

I don't know about GST or gear transmissions, but the HST transmissions can easily get close to 200 deg f when worked hard.

Just because the rad is clean don't mean the hydraulic oil cooler is..... Sits right in front of the rad.

100 degrees over ambient is about normal if it's been worked a while. It may get hotter if it's out in the sun.

Clean the cooler (and might as well clean the radiator too while you're up there...that's part of daily maintenance, IMO). Check the fan belt tension too.

Check the hydraulic fluid level; on flat level surface, loader down, 3ph down.

Suggest you consider investing in an infrared temp gun for less than $20.

130 F is a temp at which you cannot touch things yet for a hydraulic or engine system, is no where near problem levels.

The previous suggestions are also excellent but in addition having real numbers to work with will show you what is really going on.

Was mowing with a 3pt brushhog cutter. I is hot outside also and tractor is working extremely hard. I just purchased all the filters and fluid to service. Will clean everything and then give it a try again. I did not know it was normal for the fluid to get so hot.
