There was a previous thread about maximum size disc to use with an HST transmission which got me to thinking about HST transmissions and ground engaging equipment and rotary cutters. I have a Grand L3940 that I mainly use for FEL work around my property. I have a 6-foot box blade attached to do some maintenance of roads. I have an older 40-hp "blue" farm tractor with gear shift transmission that I use with ground engaging equipment (disks, breaking plows, middle buster) primarily for food plots and not row crops. I also use this tractor with my 6 foot cutter. I've never used my L3940 with my ground engaging equipment or my rotary cutter. My question is are there any concerns or cautions with using HST transmissions with ground engaging equipment or heavy cutters?

Thank you for your responses.

I dont know which blue tractor you have but it really doesnt much matter,, hook up and grab and growl, theres lot of folks that say you cant use this or that, cause it might do this or that. The HST is pretty much bullet proof, hook up and if you can drag it around, if not then its to big,, A bud has a blue tractor and when it was inthe shop they loaned him a big orange one to mow and bail with,,, he said that it wont work,,,, hooked it and away they went,, now he is thinking about an orange one and getting rid of the blue

I regularly use my L5740HSTC with a Land Pride HR3584 box scraper, the same one I use on our geared M8540HDC and it works fine, I also run a 6' rotary cutter in heavy brush. I know someone who runs a Woods 96" rotary cutter commercially wit the same size MX HST.

Skeets - "hook up and grab and growl"

thats my line!!!! :D:) (use it all the time in the shop - kids standing around looking at their ##$%$#$@@# cell phone!)

O - and I agree with skeets - hook up and dig in!
