Inherited 84 inch landpride side discharge mower. Too big for my b9200. I an thinking of getting larger tractor. What would the minimum hp needed to reasonably power this mower?

Every one of these I can find is a rear discharge model. What model number is yours ? Land Pride. Model: FDR2584?

Here is some info on a 90" side shooter:

The Land Pride AT3590 Air Tunnel Grooming Mower is
adapted for Category 1 three-point hitch mounting to
compact tractors in the 24-60hp ranges

I would get a 30+ HP if that is what you are going to run - something that has a width of 5' + too!

Found this for landpride FD2560, FD2572,

"Horse power rating of the tractor should not exceed 30 PTO
horse power on 60 inch units and 35 PTO horse power on
72 inch units. PTO Speed of tractor should be 540 RPM"

It gives maximum but not minimum hp.

38 engine hp and 6' BushHog AirTunnel here. PTO hp around 31 I think.

When mowing tall, thick, wet grass I use the full 540 pto rpm and burn a lot of fuel. But man will this thing pick up and throw some grass. Sounds like a Piper Cub following me around. If you're going to be mowing deep, thick or wet grass get as close to the MAX as you can.

Just my $.02

I have a Landpride 72" FD72 side discharge.I bought it new in 1990 for $2,300.

I find that unless the land is very flat it does not cut well as the width means it does not follow the contour of the ground.

My suggestion, before buying a tractor based upon this mower, you arrange to try the mower on a borrowed tractor to be certain it provides the cut you like.

Besides the power to run the mower you need to be certain the 3pt of the tractor you buy is strong enough to pick it up and still have the front wheels on the ground. They are heavy at over 600# and the weight is far back on the hitch which lifts the front end.

I would sell mine for $1,000 just to give you an idea of what yours is likely worth. It may make more sense to sell the mower and get a mower your tractor can handle which may be around 48".
