My ZL2201 (L245) has no tacho or hour metre, I've checked the cable & that's ok but looking at the drive when the engine is running this is where the problem lies as it doesn't turn. My question is how difficult would this be to repair?
I want to repair the tacho as I've not used this tractor properly yet so have no idea what revs the engine is at to run implements off the PTO etc. it looks like the drive unit will unbolt from the fuel pump but knowing if I play around with the fuel I will have to bleed the system so don't want to take it spat to find it's built in the pump.also would anyone know if the parts needed are available to buy? Any help welecome

L245 is not hard to get engine parts for from Kubota. Search in here for Tach, hour meter etc. and you will find lots of threads on the topic.

You can rebuild yours if you can weld. You've just got to fabricate a new tap onto the little gear that fits into a slot on the end of pump shaft. this gear spins the cable. Course sometimes it's the cable end itself where it meets the gear that is FUBARed. Opening it up to look does not create issue with fuel system if its like my L225 and L235.

Thanks for the reply. From what it looked like to me I thought it would be possible to remove the gearing for the tacho without affecting the fuel etc but wanted to make sure.
I would post a photo of said part but can't get it to down load the picture. The cable screws into the drive gear that's bolted on to the end of fuel pump & looks to me that when I remove the bolts I should be able to remove that part without touching the fuel pump.
You mentioned welding the gearing, could you elaborate on this as I don't really understand what you mean.
Does this model have a common fault with this part?
My tractor is in very good condition especially considering the age of it but the hour meter obviously doesn't work without the tacho & I would like to keep a record of how much time I use the machine, also I would be happier knowing I'm running the PTO at the correct speed for the implement etc.

On a completely differant subject could anyone tell me what the lever/knob is for on the left side of the instrement panel is for? The cable goes to some sort of valve/lever by the top radiator hose. It looks like it's something to do with the cooling system but as it doesn't have a cab to hear it's not that so if anyone could explain what it's purpose is I would be grateful.
Thanks Stu.

Yes common problem. when you take it apart, remove gear and look inside you will see there is a groove on end of pump shaft like that of a standard screw driver. Or something similar. Many are a grove. I'm not aware if all use same concept. anyway.. end of the gear there is suppose to be a tab; like a tip of screw driver, that goes in this groove and spins gear. Similar thing is suppose to be on end of cable. This one slips into gear. Either one or the other tab gets broken.

Again several in here have done this fix on their tractors. Searching will find you discussion on various solutions.

Believe from your description that is your decompression lever.

If the cable is freed up.... before starting pull the knob and hold it. If this is decompressor then engine will spin over much faster than normal. A friend holding the lever back if cable is rusted will work too. This is used to aid in starting the engine when cold. Get's engine spinning faster then you release it.

Thanks for explaining the lever on my dash. I'll give it a try next time I'm at my unit. I hope it is a decompression valve as I wouldn't say I have trubble starting it but it does turn over slower than I expect ted but thought that was just how it is. I'll post a reply to say if it worked. Thanks
