RCK60P-21Z Gearbox..
Removed the gearbox due to oil leaking from the output shaft seal. Once on the bench, noticed the shaft had 1/8" in/out movement in the seal. With shaft removed, gear is secured in the bearing and assembly moves the 1/8" on the shaft. If this is normal, shaft "floats" that 1/8" in the seal??
Pics attached..
Thanks in advance !

the lower bearing in the deck supports the shaft. On the bottom, with the box attached to the deck, there is a circlip on the bottom (up in the spindle, should have had to remove it to get the box out) and sometimes a shim. That shim and clip retain the shaft, and also reduce it's freeplay. it has to have some freeplay, if not, it will burn the bearing(s) up.

Yes Sir... I understand completely. The two shims removed measured .1mm & .2mm. Wasn't sure if the service manual listed an allowable amount of free play? The 1/8" (3mm) seemed a bit excessive , but will install new seals, bearings and clips.. and give it a go !!
