Hello everyone,
i just joined so i could ask a few questions.

I have about 4 acres to mow (once i get a yard in). About 2 1/2 of that will actually be yard. A good acre or so is in a flood plain and will need to be mowed periodically when it's not too we down there. I also have a need for some landscaping etc that accompanies a new construction.

I found a used bx 2680 with a box blade, mid mount mower, loader and an old 4' brush hog. Seems like it might be a good fit.

Opinions are welcome and does anyone have an idea how well the mid mount mower holds up year after year? Does it require constant repair or is it just routine maintenance that is required. I'm kind of mulling over the tractor/mower vs ZTR argument.

thanks

I think the BX would suit you very well. The mower decks are very solid and will last a long time. they do a very nice job cutting as well.

ZTR's are great (I have 2) but they are one trick ponies.

I have about 3-1/2 acres and about a third of it is flood plain. For us it means the creek normally comes out of its banks between 0 and 6 times a year. The flooding generally lasts just a matter of hours, but some small parts have had large puddles for a week.

So far, the largest tractor I've owned has worked the best. Apparently the ratio of rubber on the ground to weight of the tractor works for me. After a couple dry days the yard doesn't get damaged by the tractor.

I use a 91" rear mower and since the FEL is so easy to get off and on, it's never on when I mow.

Added some pics of the front yard when wet, the current lawn mower and a shot through the windshield of cut/uncut grass.

A BX will do that well. A B2601 or B2650 would also be reasonable for that size property, but if you've found a good deal on a used BX no reason not to buy it.

The main difference in operation is that a B machine has a bit more ground clearance, and quite a bit more 3PH lift capacity if you're moving pallets of stuff around whilst doing construction.

You could probably mow the flood plain with the mid mount mower, they're quite durable, and a 60 inch mower will finish faster than a 48 inch bush hog.

If you have the option I think you'd find a B2650, perhaps with a larger bush hog (6 foot / 72 inch), or perhaps a B2650 with a rear flail mower instead of a MMM might be a better choice (a flail mower mows nearly as well on the lawn, but also does most of what a bush hog will do). But sometimes you need to take the deal that's available rather than waiting for the perfect tractor, and any of those models will do what you describe.

6ft bush hog on 2650?? maybe a 5 ft in ideal conditions. I run a 5 on my L and the last time I let the pasture go too long it almost stalled it, had to go down a gear to let the mower keep up. Grass was maybe 8 inches tall, but thick and wet. I also mow it as low it will go, but I usually mow that area in high range with no issue.

Zero turn is the best choice for just mowing but like dirty said, that’s all it’s good for. There’s two areas on my ground that I mow with the tractor or zero turn depending on weather and grass height (zero turns don’t like soft ground). The front lot will take about an hour with the tractor, about 20 minutes on the zero turn. Back lot about 2 1/2-3 hrs on tractor and just over an hour on the zero turn (both are 60”).

OP, maybe post the price to see if it’s a good deal? Might gets some more ideas, and with Kubotas 0% financing on new maybe you can get a better fit for your needs.
