GPS apps can be accurate for straight-line distances. The longer you drive in a straight line, the more accurate they are.
They are not much good for twisty roads, but of course, that's not the question here.

That’s probably true. In the mid-80s I worked for an outfit which had a marketing-relationship with the MSC in Houston and we visited and got some ”hands-on” experience with some of the hardware. It was common, everyday aircraft stuff, nuts-and-bolts-wise....nothing particularly exotic, and the electonics were clearly “dated”.... heavy and bulky by todays standards.I have read that a smartphone has more "electronics" than the Apollo Spaceships had.
