I have a neighbor that has a large tractor. Its yellow not orange unfortunately lol. He's not real mechanically inclined.

The poor thing has not been greased since sand was rocks.

Me being a maintenance minded guy decided to grease his tractor for him.

I can't get several spots to take grease. It's not the zerks that are plugged. It's farther down.

I have that tool you smack but that doesn't work.

How can I get it to take grease? I dont have the facilities, time or know how to take it apart.

Thx

If you're talking about a pin or boss, you can remove the zerk and try cleaning it first. If that doesn't work, I've used a needle blow gun to remove the packed in/dried up grease after removing the zerk.

That didn't work either. I believe its a small passage like 1/8 inch and a couple inches long that's full of hardened grease.

can you push a semi ridged wire down the grease channel (hook some out) then hit it with some wd40 or similar to loosen it up?

is it in a location that can take some heat from say a heat gun.

gotta get it soft so you cn start moving it.

Might remove the zerk and run a drill bit down the passage if it's straight.

After cleaning the zerk and prior to reinstalling, fill the opening with a good penetrant, pump the fitting and get as much pressure as possible then work the equipment. Your neighbor is lucky to have you as a friend.

Mineral spirits seems to do a good job of dissolving hardened/old grease.

I would try to ‘inject” some “spirits” into those holes (possibly a syringe) and use compressed air to blow them out.

Unfortunately, there is a chance that they will not take grease again until they are taken apart.

(Regarding the syringe, they sell “industrial syringes” on the Big A…….if you go to your local pharmacy and ask to buy one, they will “sound the alarm”, and treat you like a “dope head”….ask me how I know;)(y))
