Hey guys,

I just bought a 2012 Grand L4240 from a co worker and went to do the 200 hr service on it. The manual says oil capacity is 8.7 quarts. When i dropped the oil out of the pan, i probably only got 6-7 out. I found that odd but went on with the service. I poured 8.5 back in to start, fired it up, let it run for a bit, shut it off, checked it and it's about a half inch or more past the full dot on the dipstick... Either the manual is wrong or the dipstick is wrong. I don't trust the manual 100% and already found one glaring error (HST filter swap instructions are wrong) so i just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks!

The "pulled and drained one plug" would be my pick too?
That would leave about 1 1/2 quarts in it as a guess.
I've haven't run into my specs being that far off on anything either.

No, i read the Messicks link last week before i did the service. I got almost a full oil pan (5-6 quarts) out of the left side plug, and about a quart or so out of the right side that the oil filter is on. I thought the previous owner must had been short on oil because i expected a lot more out of the right side. I swung by the dealer on the way to work and the service manager said that tractor takes "almost" 8 quarts and the manual is wrong. Not sure what to think right now, other than for as much as these tractors cost, you would assume the manual would be at least close to being correct...
