I just noticed tilling the garden my 4WD is not working any longer on my Grand L3240 HST 3. Rear wheels turn but not front wheels. I dont know when this happened. I dont remember hearing anything bust. A friend who also owned a L3240 said it happened once to him and a wire came loose underneath from going over brush. I got underneath and didn't see any wires that could be the culprit. Any thoughts or ideals? I am trying to figure out if it electrical or mechanical and go from there.

I would be checking the front driveline couplers under the oil pan. Should have to slide the covers back to see it.

I’m sure your 3240 Is The same as my 4240. I believe they mechanically shift into 4 wheel drive. I don’t think they are electric locking.

can you feel it shift into 4wd when you shift the lever? If not, your linkage may have come loose. That’s the first thing I would check. shift the lever back and forth and see if you can feel it shifting in and out. Also check to make sure it is shifting far enough to engage 4wd.

I think you are correct it is mechanical and not electronic. I checked the shift linkage and it is ok

Have you jacked up the front end and tried to spin both fronts at the same time. (Open diff) to confirm it is actually not engaged? The reason I ask is, I could see the appearance of one wheel not spinning much because of the open diff.
