Hi Everyone,

New member here, but I have been reading this forum since I started having issues with my GR2100 several years ago.

I love the Kubota 3 cyl diesel, but I have had several problems with my GR2100 and attachments.
[*]Had bar on snowthrower that attaches to the tractor frame weld break. Bent the bar slightly, but was able to get it straightened out and re-welded.
[*]As a result of above, the drive shaft from the PTO to the showthrower was bent. Had to purchase a new one.
[*]Had several of the bushings and anti-scalp wheels fail.
[*]And the biggest was the clutch pack failing. That cost me over $600 to repair.
Now, I am having issues with the HST. My forward speeds is noticeably slower and reverse is extremely slow. In addition, reverse "power" has been greatly reduced. I cannot back over a 2" object.

Any suggestions where to start looking for possible problems or potential solutions.

Thanks!
Brian

Brian, the way you're describing it, it sounds like the set screw on the HST arm is loose. This lets the arm flop around on the shaft, and then your forward speed drops and reverse speed drops to basically nothing.

If you go to the online parts illustrated parts list, and type in your model (GR2100), then go down to "speed change" and go to grid # D70000. The set screw in question is 050 in the diagram. I will warn you, however, that it's a real pain in the back side to get to it with the transmission in the frame. It can be done, but be prepared to invent new words. Tighten it up and it should be good to go for a while. May have to adjust the linkage a little after tightening it but normally it's not required.

I had one of those mowers. I liked it. Good cut and smooth operation. A seasoned kubota dealer tech and I were talking about it and he asked me if it worked and ran good. Yep. He said "sell it before it's broken". I wish I'd have taken his advice. Yes I had to put a PTO clutch in it. And also had to replace one of the two glide steer clutches. Then it leaked. Removed HST again and fixed the leaks, then a cable broke, replaced the cable, and promptly sold it ASAP, and have not looked back.

They're neat mowers, and again, I like them other than the HST. But they are a lawn mower and nothing more, and IMO, aren't designed to be used with anything "ground engaging"-snow removal stuff, tillers, etc.

Thank you! I will try this first thing in the morning. I am trying to figure out where that is in relation to the HST filter. Is that on the front right side of of the HST (opposite side of filter)? I assume I will need to remove the mower deck to make this easier.

I'd like to get this issue resolved so I can either trade it in or sell it. I am done with this Kubota.

Never mind. Doing more searching on the parts site for the Transmission gave me a very clear picture where it is.

I will *DEFINITELY* need to remove the mower deck!

And remove the rear wheel.

What a SUCKY job that was. Nearly impossible to get an allen wrench in that small space! You need to cut the allen wrench at the bend and have fingers the size of a toddler.

The bozo engineer that designed that should be forced to tighten every set screw on every Kubota without removing the HST as punishment.

Can't wait to get rid of this thing. Hope someone buys it.
