I have a yellow jackets nest in a deck box, i tried seven dust putting it in the entry hole and it did not work.

Is there any other dust that will actually work? I like the dust idea since they are supposed to track it in.

I only have the seven dust not the 5% one as no one seems to sell it.

If you can blow dust in the hole with a crank duster--that tends to work, but man that's dangerous.

I've used a propane fogger, that's quite awesome, but didn't know back then to wear a respirator as we didn't know how toxic that now-banned stuff was.

Industrial permethrin also works, knocks them down quick and the residual will likely wipe out the nest, but that can be spicy. I use a pump sprayer BUT wind can be unpredictable so wear a full-face respirator and heavy clothing. I think an electric or especially gas sprayer would be better, but I haven't justified the cost (yet).

Of the three, fogging, if you can get hold of the fog, gets the job done.

I bought a Adjustable Powder Duster is like 4 feet long.

Wait until dark and blast a whole can of wasp and hornet spray into the nest/deck box hole.
Unfortunately they're often around a corner or behind a piece of wood so hornet spray has little effect, other than sometimes they cut a hole into the house, and that doesn't end well.

Otherwise the nest blocks hornet spray and the spray doesn't go very deep into the nest. I've seen hornets use other hornets as battering rams to push through a collapsed section of nest and reopen it.

Maybe wait until night and place a bucket or bowl with dust inside over entrance hole. As they try finding a way out next morning they will repeatedly come in contact with dust and return to nest.

My sister has a back deck off her house. Yellow jackets had a ground nest under the deck. Its like 3' high. Has lattice work around it. She called the local exterminator. She said he had a power sprayer with lock together small 3' pieces with a 90* on the end. Reached way in and pumped a quart of something into the hole. $150. Bucks.
I have a 8' x 16' shed i made to keep my polaris ranger in. Siding is the clear roofing plastic panels. I moved my ranger a few weeks ago. Opened slammed the driver's door. Fired it up, backed out, then the next day from my deck putting out bird seed I happen to look at the shed. Its right behind the house down the slope 12 feet. I see a warps nest thru the clear siding, right on the driver's side, bigger then a foot ball.....OMG I could of been toast. Thank you Jesus. Im a sissy and waiting for the first 30* morning to use my can of foaming spray..
A dry dry summer means lots of hornets.

If you hadn't already dusted them you might could have found someone that collects them for making antivenom.

At this point I second the nighttime can of wasp and hornet killer. Look around and make sure they don't have an exit hole. Cover the hole so it's just large enough for the can spout.

Can you post a pic of deck box/situation? Surely there is a simple/effective solution to your problem. Doesn't sound like (to me) that any dust (to be carried in) is going to be the answer.

Wasp sprays can work but require contact with each insect. A 'vapor' type insecticide would reach all areas. I agree that waiting until dark (when all on the nest) would be the best time to apply.

I was wondering if the dust really works! A lot of people says it does thought i would give it a try and there are lots of dust Insecticides out there but seven dust is super cheap.

I guess the dust is meant to get into places that a spry can not like behind walls etc.

Wasp spry will not work as they have built the nest outside and inside the deck box.

My younger self would just dump gas on it and see what happens.

I hate it for ya being right up against the house. Otherwise, FIRE has ALWAYS worked for me on the farm.

Other than that, nothing can survive a thorough douching of brake cleaner. If you COULD get to the hole, a can in each hand would put a quick hurtin on them.

I've used brake cleaner successfully over wasp spray at the shop for about 2 decades.

One drop on them and its twitching time. So when you fog them heavily and quickly they're done before they even know it. And it won't blow them off the nest AT YOU like some wasp sprays can do.

With that said, I don't encounter yellow jacket nests on cars at the shop, just hornet and red wasp nests.

Last year I had two inaccessible yellow jacket nests around my house foundation and in the wall structure. I used this product and unlike contact sprays that kill quickly this stuff caused colony collapse within 3 to 4 days.

I was able to dust the entrance hole on one, and the other I set up a small cardboard box at the just the right height so that when they came back to the nest they would land in the dust and then crawl under a lip of siding and into the nest.

Why not simply wait till after dark, take a garbage or appropriate sized bag, put it over the nest, twist it off and carry it away? Smash or burn it while in the bag. Thats how I get rid of them.

Use either Tempo SC or Tirade SC (same active ingredient). It's not an immediate knock down chemical but will kill the yellow jackets or any other wasps.
