This had become a problem with my G1800S. The throttle lever would not stay put, and would let the engine drift down to idle.
During seasonal maintenance which included removing the radiator screen (between operator's legs) and spraying out fins of radiator, I located the adjustment for the throttle lever. It is simply a bolt through a friction washer into the shaft of the throttle lever, accessible under the dash, after the radiator screen is removed.
There's a rubber-lined washer on that bolt under there, and I simply torqued the bolt up to the desired friction to cause the throttle lever to stay put.
Got the yard mowed yesterday afternoon for the the first time this season,
