Hi, I have a L4760 cab on order with a Woods TKP84.40 finish mower (820 lbs operating weight).

On my current tractor (Deere 2038r), my 700 lbs flail mower is slightly too heavy to operate without the loader on, or front weights. Steering while accelerating isn’t possible. But flat ground mowing is possible.

I’m wondering if yall have an idea if I’d need front weights on the new tractor for this type of use. If so, any idea how much weight I should get? I will have a loader, but I don’t really like keeping the loader on while mowing.

The other thing that isn’t clear is if you need to add a weight bracket on the Kubota or not.

My 4760 came with front weight bracket built into the grill guard guard.

IMO I think you will be okay without front weights, My 7ft bushhog weighs about the same as your finish mower but extends further from back of the tractor. I leave loader on but no bucket installed and I have no problems operating in hilly terrain.

Probably will not need front weights when on level ground.

The FEL grill guard will accept 4 or 5 front weights which will be enough if needed in most circumstances.

Be advised that front weights, whether mounted on the grill guard or on the optional front weight bracket, must be removed before installing them FEL.

Great, thanks for the help! I do have a couple hills. But I’ll be mowing those, not transporting the mower on them. So weight won’t be an issue on them. It’s nice I don’t need any extra brackets to use weights if I end up needing them for something.

I would simply try without weights and add weights only if necessary.

They are expensive.

The reason I was asking was if it turned out I absolutely would need them, I’d have a chance to have them financed in with the tractor.

But since it sounds like I probably won’t, then it’s worth trying without first.

My BIL has a Woods 990X on his L4740 and it works fine without front weights. Pretty sure it weighs about 1-1/2 times what your deck does.

FWIW, front weights were mandatory on my L6060 with Woods BB720X on anything but level ground. Still carried the front end from time to time on steep areas with the maximum 5 weights attached to the FEL grill guard.

No, I never mowed with FELs attached.
