Hey all. Just seeking some general info on my tractor. Picking it up in a few days. Its a 1996 Kubota L3600. 1800hrs. One owner. With loader and backhoe. Seems like it was lightly used. Guy said he only used it to mostly mow a field. Got it for 9500.00 which I feel is a decent deal. When I pick it up I want to go over it again so any info on some specific stuff to look at would be helpful. All I can see it needs is front tires, rear backhoe seat and 1 hydraulic hose is starting to dry out. Also any tips tricks places to buy parts advice or info on this machine would Also help. This is my first tractor but Ive been around machinery for a long time. Thanks in advance.

Nice deal.

May as well download all the manuals. See the sticky in service/repair section.

Get the hoe manual and make sure you have the heavy duty top link bracket before operating. Or post a picture of the top link bracket the HD ones are easy to spot.

Good stuff I’ll post a pic as soon as I can. I’m planning on changing all the fluids and doing a good service on it before I use it. Thanks for the info.

He used it to mow a field.....but there's no mower?
Was it driven only on Sunday to go to church?

Congrats on your tractor. I bought a 1997 L4200 in May with 1500 hours. I love the tractor. The 4200is the same tractor, but with a few more horsepower. Did you know that these are the first generation of Grand L’s? I’m very happy with mine.

Is yours GST?

Awesome glad to hear! I believe it is the GST. What is the Grand L?

Grand L are the higher end tractors. Current ones end in 60. Before those were the 40s, 30s and 10s. They are heavier and with larger loaders than similar horsepower tractors of the basic L series.

The L3600, L4200 or none of 00's were grands.
In that time period grands should have been the 10 series.

But the L3600, L4200 and other 00 were far better equipped than the 01's in current production.

The gap in stock options between grands and non grands has widened. :(

I like the GST's (Glide Shift Transmission) think of it like a semi automatic standard transmission.
You can shift into any gear at anytime seamlessly without clutching.
In fact you never need to use the clutch at all, just move the shuttle into forward or reverse and back again.
It will not crash gears or have a gear conflict.
I can move mine from 1st to 8th and back again and it will shift in a matter of seconds without any risk of damage.

I’ve seen many references that say the 4200 was a grand, the first round of grand L. The 10’s appear to start right after the 4200. Tractor data says the 4200 was made from 94-99 and the 3710 from 98-02.

After looking into this further there is no clear line in the sand as to when and what a Grand really is in the older models.
I looks to be more of how it was originally equipped that to which exact model it really is.
They did not clean up the designation till the 30 series.

Clearly mine is not as “grand” as the current grands. I found one guy who had a product guide from 1995 and the 3600, 4200 and others were Grand L. Either way, I really like my 4200 GST.
