I thought it worth posting this for others seeking info on adding ballast to their tractors. As others have noted, the MX line is a little light in the back and I have had several instances of raising the rears when using the loader, or losing traction while pulling an implement.

This past week I was doing some shredding, and then bladed my drive and at some point picked up a couple of mesquite thorns in the front right tire. I was going to plug, but as an option thought I would check on mobile tire service to come out and fix the tire, and fill the rears for ballast. Since it was only going to be less than $200 total, I went ahead and had the mobile guy come out and do it all at once.

He patched two holes in the front, and soaped the other front to make sure it was not leaking. He then filled each rear (13.6 x 28) with solution of water (50 gallons each) and anti-freeze (2 gallons each) for a total of 52 gallons per tire - leaving them 75% full. It took about 2 hours from start to finish, and by my calculation added roughly 440 pounds per tire.

I wasn't able to do much work after they were filled, but I did shuttle around for a bit and the tractor was noticeable more solid. I think I am going to be pleased with the result.

It's amazing the difference it makes. After doing the tires on my L3000 I don't see how I got by so long without them being filled.
