Well yesterday was dry enough to get some mowing done, not like it didnt need it. And moving very slowly through the grass, I noticed praying mantises, flying out of the grass. Not just one or 2 but maybe 30 or 40 not counting the ones that may have gotten mulched up. This has been the first year I can ever recall seeing this many, has anyone else noticed an up tic on these guys?

Females lay 100-200 eggs in a “case” which may hatch almost simultaneously. You may have come across some of these.
Praying Mantis‘ are “generalists”…they eat almost Any/All other insects…. both beneficial and not equally…. (including each other.)

Could be, they were however in appearance at any rate to be adults. In high school biology class I found 3 or 4 egg cases and we kept them in a covered fish bowl over the winter and watched the little buggers hatch in the spring. And when they did they were every where , the teacher had to open the windows so they would leave.
