So I take it the pto clutch was not the issue?

Nope, engine was running on 1 cylinder ,stuck intake valve, now I'm stuck with a new clutch.

Damn man sorry about that. I was pretty sure I had it nailed to the pto clutch. A few of my mowers did the same thing in the past and the fix was a new pto clutch. Really odd how the motor ran fine until you kicked in the pto...
