Well since the 320 is now regulated to being nothing more than a down rigger weight, unless Sig works some kind of magic. The question remains, what do you EDC. The 1911, has hung for years, until all that steel started to pull belt and pants down,,, not a pretty sight I must admit. So the hunt has seemingly settled on 2 prospective pieces, price not the issue at this point in time. First H&K .45 double stack ( 15 round I think) fairly flat and shouldnt print to much, the other is S&W Shield .45 single stack ( 7 with on in the tube 8) which shouldnt hardly print at all. While shekel out lay is important, the difference in cost may be a negligible deciding factor. So asking for a friend what say you ?

You must take into account age, physical condition, infirmities such as arthritis, physical strength of hands, and how familiar one is with a weapon. I use a snubby wheel gun these days. I use the S&W PD340 for primary EDC and a Ruger LCP 380 for backup. I do not carry extra ammo, I carry an extra gun. Sometimes I substitute the wheel gun with two LCP's.

don't let the 320 go over the side of the boat just yet. I don't think that the full verdict is in.

Sounds like you're a fan of the bigger bore stuff...I like them too but I don't edc with one. Not sure how you plan on carrying (inside or outside). For me, it's IWB so the width is what really matters to me. Thin slides and short grips are much less noticeable.

My current fav is yes, a Sig P365 (in 9 mm). Totally different fire control design than that of the P320. My second favorite and mostly summer carry is a P938 in 9mm (yes another Sig). Same looks/controls as a 1911 but much, much smaller in size...like really small. Lastly, it's a Ruger SR1911 lightweight commander in the .45 fatty. I carry that on occasion when I'm feeling frosty. It's considerably lighter than the full steel 5 inchers.

I did have a shield for a number of years (first version) in 9mm. Didn't like the way it felt in my hand so I gave it to my BIL. The newer models are much better. I've shot them and they work well.

You'll have your work cut out for you in your decision...so many to choose from now.

Best of luck

Ive run a bunch of makes and models and i always come back to my glock. I have never had one failure in probably 25-30k rounds in my old pair of g19 (9mm). I did heavy training (student and instructor)with them years ago so a lot is muscle memory but they also just fit me well.

what i told my students. Research reliability then find buddies who have them to shoot or a range that rente a large selection. And see what fits and you shoot well.
I carried glochs g30 compact 45 for a few years but the weight was too much. Im active and out on the farm all day and dont even know my guns are on me at this point.

For me, i cant carry anything that i feel.

Tried a couple glocks, too heavy. Although my g23 is probably the most reliable, its just too much on my side. She can sit in between the seats literally a decade at a time and still come out barkin if need be just can't carry her comfortably.

Tried a few different s&w's. couple 40s, too bulky, and my 1911 isn't comfortable at all.

I always go back to my lcp .380. She disappears right into my well developed love handles. Don't even know its there after several years of carrying.

Definitely not the round capacity i would prefer, or the knock down strength, by better than nothing.

Literally in my area i'm far more worried about crossfire than what damage i could do on my own.

She's crusty and a little dirty but all i feel i ever need..... after that I'm runnin LOL

I've still got my P320 compact in 9mm on my side. Been debating stepping up to a 45, but have not found a right fit.

Gotta say those Sig Legions look good, but not sure about it for EDC

Revolvers are my real preference, however they are not so comfortable to me IWB. Anyhoo, before the boating accident, standard EDC kit was kimber ultra cdp II 45 acp regardless of attire, plus an extra mag and spiderco delica and a surefire light, That’s what fits my plus size girlish figure and is comfortable walking as well as seated driving with seat belt. All my semi autos are in Ritchie Leather.

i have two deviations:

1. Outside working, hiking, hunting, tractorin’ or out and about where open carry doesn’t make Twinkie’s wet themselves, then its always absolutely a revolver….there’s several, but my favorite is a Freedom Arms 97 and a money belt….most comfortable belt/holster I’ve ever wore…that’s the best set up.

2. The SO and I do a bit of cycling (mostly paved road but some mountain biking ), and if no luggage on, the I have an sig p938 (better than nothing, but it’s pretty small in the hand) in a binto box on the top bar. If on a Mountain bike in bear country then it’s a Diamond D chest holster and a ruger toklat.

Hey, me to fella. Kept mine in a pouch under my seat.

I quick smoking cigarettes in my mid 20s and had to start biking to keep my weight down.

I'd bring my bike to work and on the way home would bike an 11 mile trail daily around our reservoir.

Made a 1.8 mile trail on our properly after relocating out to the country.

Its just too dangerous to bike on our country roads out here with my youngin. Everyone is heads down in their phones, afraid me and the oldest would get smoked.

These days I ride a Carbon diamondback but because of all of our thorns and obstructions I can't keep healthy tubes. But atleast I stay movin and keep the weight down.

P365x in town. IWB.

Sig XTen, G20, or M&P 10 at home when in the forest.... Shoulder holster. 10mm is a bear ( the animal) thing.

Don't much worry about the Sig 320 claims. It smells like lies to me.

I used to carry the Colt Defender, sold it to buy the P365x. But it is a good compact 1911.

That being said, if it's cold and I have a big jacket, in town I will shoulder holster anything! Usually P226.

CZ 75b on my hip as I write this on my porch. Lol

They're are lots of choices.

I have the Sig p938. Love it for CCW. It might be small but it’s easy to shoot accurately and it’s 9mm, so it does pack a punch. I like the single action trigger.

My friend, may have to take a look at the smaller 1911's. The reason the 320 felt so good, almost the same grip angle as a 1911 and of course about 2/3 the weight with 2 times more pills. I have been kicking a wheel gun around, they never seem to go bang by them selves. And yes there are lots of choices, the 320 is not a love gun and nobody wants one in their shop it seems. Thanks guys, though I will count out the glock, never felt right to me, so that narrows things down,,,, LMAO

I’m not sure what feel your friend likes, but the newer Glocks grips vary quite a lot with some replaceable inserts in some models. Glock 43s and 48s have ShieldArm magazines available to increase capacity will still being very thin. Browning HiPowers or clones feel a lot like a 1911 with more capacity. For 1911s, consider the CCO models. They have a Officer sized frame with Commander size slide and can come in aluminum frames. Colt also makes lightweight Commanders with aluminum frames.

Your friend should also check into some DA/SA semiautos like the Berettas.

Ruger SP101s and S&W Jframes are both small (5 shot) and S&W makes some extremely light models that your friend should consider.

I think your friend will have to handle some of them. Ideally, shoot them. I’ve heard that some models point better than others. For instance, once upon a time two brothers shot both Glock 19s and 17s, and found both shot the 19s better.
