I am looking into repowering my retired US Navy whaleboat with a Kubota V2203 134DI. The engine was used as a compressor by Carrier Refrigeration company. This engine was removed from a semi refrigeration trailer. The state of Calif does not allow them on their roads. There are several versions of the engine with different horsepower and rpm ratings. Carrier calls them V2203L-DI-E3B-CT-1 or CTD-2, or CTD-3 all the way up to CTD-6. The rpm ratings are from 1700 rpm to 2200 rpm and the horsepower values are mostly in the 32 to 36 hp range. Is these all the same engines as the factory V2203-M-E3B and just set to run at a set speed? Why all the differences?

I do appreciate the answer but I have not been able to find the key pieces of information that I am looking for. Can you tell me the horsepower and RPM range of this engine? I have been all over the web with no luck. All know is that it is from a Carrier 2004 refer unit.

Higher injection pump pressure is what's boosting the net H-power hence the difference in flywheel ratings.
So all I need to do is increase the injection pump pressure to get the full 50hp out of it? How is this done? Do I need special equipment? Or, should I just be happy with the 40 hp and let sleeping dogs lie?
