Skeets, you talking about hydrated lime like you normally buy in 50# bags, or the product from the rock quarry?

From the quarry, we call it "screenings" because it's basically left overs that fall off of everything else. Cheapest thing in the quarry! Probably $5 ton. The cost is in delivery, and that depends on mileage.

I got 9 tons of AB3 (what the county uses for road rock) a couple of months ago delivered about 20 miles...cost $360. It has a lot of that lime dust in it, and that's way I wanted it because it packs tight with just a little moisture.

Well cat I got back my soil test from Penn State AG lab,, and according to them everything is good but the ground sour,, and to release everything so I can get something to grow like it should, and not be stunted or deformed. It has to be sweetened up. Which is pretty much what I figured in the first place. I think the yellow clay was the give away,,lol Anyways all said and done to get the land where it should be I need,,,,, wait for it,,,,,,,,, 9000 pounds per acre  Hell it would be 6 inches deep,, but I figure spring fall spring spreading would work,, and all I need is 45,000 pounds,, thats 22 tons:eek:. Soooo I dont know, the local farm supply guy just smiled when he gave me the price,,,what a jagoff,,,,
Closest stone pit is about 60 miles away and I dont know if they will deliver that small amount. And that why I was asking

Brother Skeets,

Look around in your local area for an independent trucker.

I found a guy out here that owns his own truck and is a busy guy running material all over town. His prices CRUSH the stone sellers. He gives me his wholesale price per ton plus two bucks per ton, plus a small delivery charge ($40), depending on where he picks up at, because I am way up north. He also knows where the quality stuff is. I get high grade 1/4- decomposing granite for my driveway at $17 a ton. The place in Cave Creek wants $28/ton for lesser quality material and they charge delivery even though I am 3 mi away.

Find an independent hauler. They will save you kaboodles.

I was just wondering how you planned to spread it. Lime is VERY heavy, and difficult to spread, at least ag lime is. Around here you can get used lime from a treatment plant dirt cheap, but it usually has more moisture and is harder to spread evenly.

Skeets,

I did the same to my 6 acres last year and it cost $510 for 15,500+/- lbs delivered and spread. They are about 20 miles away from my placee.

Clay

Call your nearest quarry and ask them. They sell the ag. lime by the ton and can probably give you a list of independent truckers.

I just called the local quarry. They have several locations. One location is $3.00 another one is $2.00 a ton (they have a sale going on!!). I asked about a 20 ton delivery 20 miles away and they said $8.50 per ton.(that includes lime and delivery). They also had some names of guys with spreaders.

So they come and dump the load. Someone else brings their skid steer, and spreader truck to get it spread. They charge per acre.

You may find a person who spreads lime who also hauls from the quarry. Around here the cost would be in the neighbor hood of $15 a ton, that's turn key job.
