I am considering trading old faithful ('79 JD 2440) in on a 2006 M6040HDC. Hydraulic shuttle, cab, LA1153 loader. It's a consignment tractor with a touch over 700 hours on it. The low hours could be good but, also make me wonder if it has been someone's headache. The tractor would do what I need it to do but I need a reliable unit for the 80-100 hours/year that we would be using it. Curious if any of you have general knowledge of this particular series. Getting older and would enjoy the benefits of a cab and hydraulic shuttle. Thanks in advance. Jon

Hmmm, all I hear are crickets in the background....

I did a search on here using 'M6040' and picked up a few tidbits. Tractor is about 2 1/2 hours away. Was hoping for a better feel before burning up the better part of a day for a look-see.

I have a M9540 and previously had an M7040. Never a minutes trouble out of either. Friends also have the Mxx40 tractors and they have never missed a lick either. Been around a total of 7 tractors in this series.

We've had our M8540 for quite a few years, for the first few it got a lot of use to get caught up, now just maintaining one of our farms uses about 100 as we have several machines. Never had an issue with it.

I just sold my M7040. I bought it new in 2012. Absolutely wonderful machine. Not one issue. I think the M40 series Kubota’s are one of their best.

Now, Dave......... I was really hoping for 'PRE-PURCHASE' information, LOL! :D

I can't purchase before the 1st of March. However, it's at a great dealership and they will hold it if I commit. After receiving the background on this particular tractor, I am now trying to adjust my schedule to go see it. When it comes to spending tens of thousands of dollars, I tend to move pretty slow... ;)

All that being said, if I do buy it, I will certainly send a PM your way. I thank you kindly.

I bought an M4900 with cab and front end loader with 640 hours two years ago. It now has 910 hours. The alternator was bad when I bought it. I put a brand new one on and no trouble with it since. The only trouble I have had along the way is hydraulic hoses springing leaks. My tractor is a 2003 model year.

P.S. Mine also was a consignment tractor. My local Kubota dealer was the original seller. I bought it from them the second time. I am the second owner and have no regrets. I was able to go bigger buying used. I paid $17,900 for the M4900. I was looking at a new B3xxx for $30k when the Mrs asked the salesman what's up with that one over there. We bought it on the spot.
