Confused by Engine Serial Number

Hello,

I am confused ordering parts from my kubota dealer.

I got this information:
16264-73270 >=10001
16221-73270 >=110327

So use part code 16264-73270 when Engine Serial number is >=10001 and use part code 16221-73270 when engine serial number is >=110327.

I believe my Engine Serial number is XJ3489.
According to this site https://global.engine.kubota.co.jp/en/support/serialnumber/index.html that means X is year 1999 and J is month May. So my serial number is then 3489?

3489 is much lower then 10001. So it does not match any of the part numbers? My dealer says just go with 16264-73270, but I don't understand why. Also on the website https://global.engine.kubota.co.jp/en/support/serialnumber/index.html the serial number always seems to be 4 numbers. Is the parts catalog refering to another number?

Really wild guess just top get things started. I recently saw different model numbers used for the USA and Europe. Might they have a different numbers for components?

Actually have him order BOTH, $5 gaskets,be nice to SEE what the difference is but...
I'd go with what the dealer says and if it's wrong,he can reorder the correct part.

I'm guessing.nl is for Netherlands and model numbers change depending on where in the world you are.
You should have posted what tractor you have, some here might have books that old to SEE why the 2 part numbers.

My tractor is B2100HD. The dealer and me are both in the Netherlands. The gasket was an example, I also need the thermostat itself. I used the gasket because I know both numbers, and the real question is how to read these part catalogs so I can understand them better myself.

If you are seeing this in the Kubota illustrated parts list for the tractor, I would think they are talking the tractor S/N, not the engine.

To further clarify or confuse the situation you’re seeing
one tractor serial number uses one part number
another tractor with a higher serial number uses the other part number

that is defined as a serial number break

usually it is shown with less than (<) serI’ll number and greater than or equal to (=>) second serial number

I have seen a few times where there are two different breaks and that gets a bit confusing. I think that Kubota would then show the less than symbol then a serial number then the greater than or equal to second serial number and then another greater than or equal to symbol and then a third serial number.

The original post may be showing the last two numbers of the two break series?

Hope that helps explain this

This is an interesting one.
I know there was a lot of changes going on when they built the B2100, and that model has many possible parts, in all different aspects.
The serial numbers are another oddity, as 99% of the tractors around this time frame only had 5 digits in there serial numbers, but by this parts list they are saying that there are not only 5 there are 6 digit and Letters used.
But in all of the searches for serial numbers they say a serial number or PIN number has to be 5 Digit or 17 Digit, super contradictory.

So it's making me think they might be using the engine serial numbers for these parts instead of the traditional tractor serial numbers.

Here is the full parts look up:

@North Idaho Wolfman: That software looks very nice. What is it?

The IC column shows NL, would that mean Netherlands? I am still puzzeled by which serial number now to use.

The image shows numbers with 6 digits, 5 digits, and one starting with 2 letters and then 4 digits.

So what to compare with? My engine serial number, complete XJ3489, or just the numbers 3489, or the numbers on the VIN 80829. I still would not know how to match it.

HAHAHA NI not Not NL, NI=Not Interchangeable
That screenshot is from the Kubota Parts website.

I would give you the exact answer if I could, but none of this makes any sense to me.
Neither your serial number on the tractor or the serial number on the engine exactly match what they are saying would be the right numbers.

Your tractor serial number ( 80829 ) is greater than 10001
But also your engine Number ( XJ3489 ) is greater than WY0001

So to add further confusion, the top two numbers have been replaced by:
16851-73270
Either of the bottom numbers are point to:
16221-73270

So in semi conclusion:
16851-73270 matches your tractor serial number
16221-73270 matches your engine serial number
If I was to guess I would say it's more likely to be the 16221-73270 gasket

Do you have the old gasket?
Or you might be able to tell by looking at the outlet housing.
If you look at the sealing ridge between the two different gaskets you will notice that one is round and the other has indents where the bolt holes are.

So it looks like they are using the engine numbers.
Interesting.
So you need:
T-stat 15321-73014
Gasket 16221-73270
