Here is a 'hack' that I hope will help at least one person in this group.
I wanted to cut some logs 'in half'. They were too short to be safely held by an assistant while I wielded the chainsaw, so I cobbled together a makeshift 'vice' using a pallet and some rope.
The assistant could pull on the rope to secure the workpiece while being safely out of range of the saw.

Not too shabby. If you can keep your chisels out of the dirt then you've got a winner there.

I seldom have an assistant, but the tractor could fill in nicely to provide tension.
Thanks, will file this for future use.

Thanks. At the time, my pallet forks were otherwise occupied. Next time, I'll put the pallet on the forks and work at waist height.

Cool!

I sort of do the same thing with my hydraulic wood splitter. I just clamp the piece sideways to hold it so I can cut it.
