So, been just about 2 years (1 month away) and I did my 800 hour service this weekend. When I removed the hydro filter, it made a loud "POP" noise. Seems there was a lot of pressure in there ...somewhere.

Is that normal??????

As with you bubble problem - I would say this is not normal.

Something is amiss in your hydraulics.

This pop - was it a vacuum or vent "pop?"

My first thought would be a stuck seal.

I could not say, I was on the far side of the filter, I just heard what sounded more like a pop than a suction, but, honestly, it could have been either.

That may be normal. I think it’s actually a vacuum ‘pop’. Mine did it and I have seen YouTube videos that have captured the same. Even my front differential dipstick will ‘pop’ every so often.

I say vacuum because any real pressure would by blowing out dipsticks and / or filters. But then again I am no expert.

The pop was the seal unsticking from the housing, I bet the filter was easier to unscrew afterward also.
Almost everyone I service does it.

If a vacuum was able to build up, I’d wonder if the rubber vent tube near the tranny dipstick was plugged.

@whitetiger explanation of the sound seems quite plausible to me.

I just did both my tractors this summer, although I don’t recall any particular sound when removing either of the tranny filters (two on each tractor). But I wasn’t really listening for one either.
