I have 2 sets for my 1880. The turfs that came with it for cutting grass. Larger R4’s (for the 23S) for winter duty. The don’t make R4’s for the small rims that come with the 1880. Not exactly fun but I get about 4 inch lift with the larger tires. I don’t fill the tires. Works fine without. I remove my mower deck for winter duty. If you do this, buy the plate that mounts underneath to protect from crap that could damage underneath. Can’t remember the company I ordered it from. Someone here will post the business. Not that expensive. If I find it, will post it.
It's the Under Armor Skid Plate by bxpanded.com. I have and highly recommend it for when the mower deck is off. They also sell the Piranha tooth bar for the bucket which is excellent.

I'll take a wild guess here that your B2601 does not have filled tires. Somehow you have strong feelings about how a BX rides with filled tires. From my first hand experience a BX rides fine with properly filled tires (leaving the proper air space) and the added weight does not damage my lawn. If the tires were completely filled then it would ride hard because fluid is incompressible.

The OP is apparently looking at used BXs so the rear tires may or may not be filled and whatever he winds up with he can decide if it works for him or if he needs to change it.
No, my B2601 isn't ballasted.

As I said, I'm not against ballasting when you need it, but we haven't established that the OP needs it:

But I strongly believe ... it's horses for courses. I always recommend to start without loading them, and then if you have a problem that would be solved by ballasting them, add ballast then. But if it works fine without, then you're way better off without. It's easy to add ballast, it's a pain to take it out.

You will be surprised how maneuverable it will be. I use mine to mow a half-acre lot in town it does a great job. The r4 tires do leave some marks if you mow when it's wet or go over the same spot every time.
