Having heard that others had replaced the BX23D HST without removing the transaxle, I was happy to get to the point of exposing the HST from under its layers of mud, and giving it its first wash.

I believe I now see that in order to slide the HSD forward off its splines, I'll need to remove the mower deck lift arms bellcrank tube, and also the hexagonal bar directly above it which seems to be a frame crossmember.

And this looks like it means I have to remove both outer longitudinal frame members, which are secured by 9 bolts each, and undo the 3 hard hydraulic lines from the pump to the FEL control valve.

Is there more to it than this?

When I remove the outer frame rails, is it OK to leave the rear supported by axle stands under the drive shafts, and a floor jack for extra safety? It looks like there will still be enough bolts securing the transaxle to the inner frame.

Any other advice?

Thanks
Michael
