When one stands on the left side of the engine, the three injectors run fore and aft.
There is a device - 3 donuts joined by tubes, and the tubes continue to the fore and aft - I suppose a return or vent.
Mine (and the parts book) is connected only on the aft end, there is nothing for the fore end to connect to....
How, why?

I think you are talking about the diesel fuel return lines. There can be excess fluid delivered to the injectors. It is not dispensed into the cylinder so has to go somewhere else and that is the fuel tank.

The lines really only go towards the tank so the front injector just has a hose going to the tank. But it is routed to injector #2 before being routed to injector #3 and then to the tank. #2 and #3 have to pass fuel from the previous injector(s).

OK, you got my description, great!
I get that (donut) 1 feeds 2 (through metal pipe), feeds 3 (metal pipe), metal pipe to rubber tubing to tank.
But there is a metal tube on 1 going to the front, never had a rubber tube on it.

Is it not drilled out? Is it open? Act as a vent, air to allow fuel to travel to rear?
Tractor nose down would/could it leak fuel?

On some newer tractors that there is a loop back to the injection pump, which I neglected to describe. That seems to be your case but there were a lot of different options for Bx23 and I looked at only one of them.

@tshep you really need to add a D to the end of your BX23 some BX23D to differentiate it from the newer and much different BX23S
