BX2200. Replacing brake o-rings in transmission.

I just purchased a used BX2200 (2000 hours) that needs some TLC. The first project is to fix the transmission leak. It appears to be leaking from both sides, where the brake actuators enter the case. I understand that these are sealed with an o ring on the inside of the case. So: can I just remove the covers on the side, taking the axles with them, or am I going to need to remove something else to get the axles to come out (perhaps a c clip that holds them in the diff)? I assume that if there is something else holding the axles, the transmission will need to come out to do this repair (not really looking forward to that...).

Thanks for your reply. I do have a service manual, but it doesn't explain how to address this specific problem. However, a visual inspection confirmed that there's no way I'm getting at that without pulling the transmission first
