Just curious, I realize that the answer to this question is directly related to how well the engine has been maintained and how hard it has been worked,
but what is generally considered "a lot" of hours on a properly maintained BX2200 Kubota engine?
Thanks

Hmm, let's put it this way. The Kubota is a tractor for professionals. Not for the hobby-gardener. Normal traktor's got up to 8000h-9000h, before they are 'thrown away'. A lot of the old tractors stay on the farm and used for little tasks around the buildings, they are sometimes up to 30-40 years!

If the maintainance was good, that tractor will please you very long.

If you do a search for BX2200 problems you'll find a few more than expected. On the negative side, the three cylinder engine is a real shaker at low RPMs, the HST is whiny and a bit weak, there are issues with the HST fan breaking, power steering issues, and other little niggling problems (fuel tank leaks, 3PH adjustments, etc.). Many hours will just bring more of these problems to the forefront. Mine has about 500 hours and has had some of the above issues.

This model doesn't seem to be one of Kubota's top of the line tractors. Apparently it is made for very small hobby farms and has to be affordable for that market. Thus, some compromises have to be made. It is more of a large mower (with a MMM or a flail/rotary) than a HD tractor.

That said, it has been very functional in its niche around here. My wife loves it and her new LA211 FEL. She hauls prunings from the orchards and mows between trees. It aerates the lawn, pulls a fertilizer cart, runs a chipper, pulls trailers, performs as a yard mule, rototills the garden, levels with a landscape rake, scrapes with a box blade, and can be used like an ATV. It does what would be expected of a small and maneuverable machine.

But we have a backhoe and a larger tractor to do the more substantial jobs so my view of the little tractor is somewhat influenced.

The engine if maintained will run thousands of hours but the engine is the most durable part of these small tractors. Take a careful look at the rest of the machine. Expect some repairs.
Just and example of of how long the engine will go. They are used in reefer units and it is not uncommon to see 12000 hrs on them. That of course is perfect conditions and they just run all day long at a constant rpm.:D
