The needle does read high and does barely go into the red. I wouldn't say that it is bubbling from air pockets but because the radiator fluid is actually boiling hot.You didn't mention the temperature gauge so I am assuming it was in the normal range. Check the radiator if the the radiator isn't or wasn't full, the air in the radiator would be purging out through the overflow tank when the engine heats up. When it cools it will pull coolant back into the radiator and the level in the overflow tank will go down. If you have to add coolant be sure to add one that is compatible with the present coolant.
Since it is getting hot check the fan and the screen in front of the radiator. I don't know about a BX1850, but on my BX2370 with the hood open you pull the screen up from behind the radiator.The needle does read high and does barely go into the red.
