I mowed the yard with no problems and parked the tractor. I came back a week later to mow and the PTO won't engage. Tried moving the PTO position selector from rear to mid to both with no change. Inspected the lever which seems harder to move than I remember. NOTHING!!! The mid and rear ptos turn and I don't feel any grinding. I"ve scoured the interned and looked in the service manual. The manual just appears to jump to pull the transmission and take apart. POINT me in the proper direction please!!!

Will it start up? If not then check your PTO engagement lever to see if its engaged. Other wise thats all I got

Looking at the parts breakdowns, for the gears, shifter and fork assembly, I would speculate that the WSM is right. Either fork problem or gears are rounded.

The BX tractors have a hydraulically actuated clutch for the pto. The pto lever is actually a barrel valve that rotates in the transmission housing so ports line up to direct oil to the clutch or drain it away to disengage. That "barrel valve" is prone to seizing in the housing and not turning enough to align the ports for engagement. when you say it is stiffer to move I think this is the cause! look in over the tire while you move the lever to see if it is moving at the bottom where it goes into the transmission and is not just bending the lever.

Looked and looked in the work shop manual, the lever is only a valve with a few opening, there is a screw on the end for checking pressure. I took that out and pressurized the hole to remove anything. Cleaned the metal suction filter, changed the fluid and the filter. Hosed down the lever area with PB blaster. Lever moves better now and pto is engaging. Not sure what the problem was but thanks for any replies and suggestions. Just thought I would pass along my experience.
