I have a BX 2660 that needed an oil change and air cleaner element at 200 hrs. I note that there are two caps labeled "Oil"; one on the head up top and another below the air box.

I've looked at the shop manual, the owner's manual, the web, YouTube, etc. and I can't find a reference to the lower cap.

What is the difference?

Thanks in advance.

On the d905 and d1105 motors they have a fill cap in the valve cover, and one by the injection pump. There isn't any difference between the two. My thought is kubota motors are used in many different pieces of equipment, with different applicatations. One piece, you may have to fill the oil through the valve cover, where as on a light tower, it's next to impossible to use the valve cover oil fill with out taking the cabinet apart. But you can reach the oil fill by the injection pump easy by opening a door.

I called the local Kubota dealer this afternoon and asked about the two oil fill locations. At first the person I spoke with was unsure there were two fill ports on the 2660. He said there should be only one. I explained that I had the air box out of the engine compartment and saw a cap labled "oil" and assumed it could be used for engine oil just like the one on top of the head cover. A short conversation within the shop that I couldn't quite hear confirmed that there "could" be two places to add oil.

In any event, I checked the oil level on the dip-stick after using the "lower" oil fill port and it's fine. The tractor started, didn't overheat or blow-up. I've never had a vehicle or piece of equipment with two oil fill points before. The upper one, on the head cover is obviously easier but since I was on the left side of the tractor, with the refill port there and had the oil handy I just used that location.

If someone else has a different take on this please let me know. Otherwise I'll consider it closed.

Yes Kubota engines can have multiple point to add oil, Just makes it easier to sell them for different uses.
I've seen as many as 4 different spots, Valve cover, Gear case cover side, gear case front, tube directly off Oil pan.

My B7100: Valve cover.
My L3450 : Gear case side and valve cover.
My 743 Bobcat: Front of gear case, and valve cover.

It's also the same for drain plugs, right, left, side, front, rear, and multiple.
