BX 24 Rear PTO Output Size

Friends,

Still having a bit of a learning curve with the mini tractor!
Bought a used BX24 with some used implements. One of the implements is a Gearmore Brushhog type mower (4 feet). I am thinking it never went with this tractor but was thrown in with the lot for the sale.
One problem is the PTO shaft for the mower does not fit on the rear PTO output of the BX24. It will go on about half way but will not go on all the way and lock because it looks like the PTO output of the BX24 gets just a bit larger in diameter on the inner part closer to the tractor.
Also the PTO shaft is too long for this BX24 application.
My question to any kind people in the know; is the BX24 PTO output supposed to be larger diameter like I have explained on the inner part, or has this part possibly been replaced with an incorrect retrofit?
Another question; where do you buy a PTO shaft that will fit this unusual (I think) PTO output? I would like to buy a shaft for this implement that will be the correct fit for the PTO output of the BX24.
Many many thanks.

I have never seen a pto shaft that gets larger as it goes. Does it have dirt or grease built up on it?

As far as the pto shaft being to long. You should be able to simply cut the shaft down so it will fit your tractor. Most shafts are going to have enough extra length on them in the slide area to where they can be cut to fit. Slide the two pieces apart and do some measuring. Just make sure you don't cut it to short.

Thanks,
I have ascertained some additional information:
Some one had used a shaft too long an did some minor (hopefully) damage to the PTO output and transmission. I think either the shaft or the actual PTO output is a bit tweaked by that process and that is what the problem is.
I may look into taking off the transmission cover from the rear and replacing the PTO output and the seal that seeps from the damage done.

Now I have no idea if your tractor works like my M series or not but I would look into it first. My M has a snap ring that when removed the PTO shaft can be pulled out of the tractor. I kind of doubt your is like this but it would be a much easier fix if it was. Good luck with your repair.
