Hi, all-
I'm trying to loosen the gland nut on the dump cylinder on my FEL.
I have a pretty hefty spanner wrench made out of a pipe wrench. I was going to try slipping a piece of pipe over the wrench to give me more leverage, but Mrs. Happytule was walking by today so I asked her to help me by tapping the pipe wrench while I held it in place.
It didn't budge. Then she brought up a subject that had crossed my mind: is the gland nut reverse threaded? So I reversed the wrench, no luck.
I'm still going to get a length of pipe to use as a breaker bar, but I'm wondering two things:
1. Does that gland nut come off counter-clockwise (lefty-loosey)?
2. Is there any reason not to pour some penetrating oil into the hydraulic nipple so the gland nut can soak a bit?
Your thoughts & suggestions are appreciated!
