After some heavy mowing in wet grass I had a whir or whine (similar to a bad throwout bearing) coming from the area of the rear PTO. I took the cover off of the rear PTO just to be sure that it was not somehow :confused:engaged. The noise did not seem to be related to the transmission and was evident in gear and neutral. When I started it the next day, the noise was gone. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like your belts were slipping on the mower deck. Most mowers dont like to mow thick wet grass and will cry like a baby and squeel like a stuck pig and cause your belts to slip. It makes a helluva racket and can burn up a belt and cause one to break.

That's what I thought until I stopped and disengaged the PTO and shifted to neutral. The noise was still there. I wonder if the transmission just got hot?

My next thought is maybe the tractor got over heated itself. I know my B6100 sounds like a tea pot kinda whistle that will ring your ear drums off when it gets over heated real bad. I'm not sure if the new Kubotas do the same thing or not.

The engine was not overheated. The temp gauge was normal. I had recently flushed the radiator and replaced the antifreeze. It just sounded like the rear PTO was engaged, but I took the plastic cover off and it was not moving. When I started it later, the noise was not there.
