I dare not enter the "grapple" thread chaos, I simply would like to know what Grapple for the BX 1880 and do I need a 3rd function kit?

(Conversely I don't need opinions on the size and work and scope, I would just like to know what grapple if any will work and do I need a 3rd function kit or not to utilize it, I have the SSQA)

Yes, you need a third function kit. There are two options that I know off, a real third function or a diverter valve that switches one of the joystick function for the grapple while pressing a button. The diverter system might be cheaper and easier to install.
I have the Land pride third function kit and the SGC0548 48 in. grapple (pin on and no longer available) that I bought with the tractor. The SGC0554 is the SSQA equivalent in 54 inches. There are brochures and manuals in the link below for the installation and operation of 3rd function kit and grapple.

If you have rear remote hydraulic connections you can run the grapple off of those. You will need to run hydraulic lines from the grapple piston back to the remotes.
Other than that method you will need a 3'rd function.

Get a Brush Crusher grapple from Good Works Tractors....no third function or diverter valve needed.

Depends on your definition of a third function kit. You need a way to ooerate the cylinders on the grapple. Electric operated control valve is the "standard" definition. A cheap manual valve or diverter for the loader valve will also work.
