Bucket sand spreader gate.

I was thinking about making a frame out of say 2 in angle that would measure about 10 inches in ht by say 50 inches width with sheet metal welded in across it. Then attaching this gate to my b2620 bucket and leaving a one inch space along the bottom between the gate and bottom lip of the bucket , which I would use as a sand dispenser by driving up and down my iced over road with the bucket at enough of an angle to dispense sand.
Has anyone ever tried this or have any ideas on this. I'm looking for something simple and cheap and have already been down the pain in the ass motorized sand spreader road.

Cool idea. I have resisted getting a spreader for my residential plowing.
I would think sand would pile up and not dispense through a narrow slot at the bottom. How about a extruded metal screen from the cutting edge and higher? I suspect it would sill pack against the screen, but shaking / rolling the bucket may do the trick. If you proceed, please post the results!

Yeah, I was thinking something like that also. Could maybe slow/even out the application if it's dry and flowable, or provide something to help break up clumps..?

It is a cool idea!

I currently use the bucket method without any type of gate using dry bagged sand which I open and dump right into the bucket. Moving along at a steady pace with just the right about of bucket angle I've gotten pretty good at dispensing sand evenly. Im of the KISS train of thought and figured a gate would make it easier even with someone else operating the tractor. Figured I would even make the opening adjustable from say 1/2 inch to 3 inchs. I never have an issue with wet or clumping sand as I only use the bagged stuff so I never have an issue with wet or clumping sand, lol. I'm gonna weld it up this week and let you know how it goes.

The gate idea is what I have on mine, mostly used for spreading gravel. Two decking boards high with metal lips on each side that hold it up about 2 inches. Works really good except for crusher run gravel that is wet, tilt the bucket back up and break the clump loose. Doesn't happen much.

Hey, has anyone heard of this spreader. It looks interesting, when I started looking at their video. I'm trying to find out more about how in New York sells them.

Pronovost Hardy sand-and-salt-spreader.... Its out of Canada, leave to the Canadians.

It comes in 54", 74" and 86"

Sorry I can't add the web link.
