Brake drum

I'm leaning toward replacing the motor on my lathe. I think it has a centrifugal switch which is sticking. Occasionally I will have to wait a couple minutes to restart the lathe after I turn it off. What size motor would you guys recommend for that lathe?

A squirt of wd40 or drop of oil may well fix that........

My 9 x 20 lathe has 3/4hp, my 12 x 36 has 2hp.

3/4 hp would be the max. Those lathes and their aluminum drive gears are prone to having bad things happen if you over power them.
