Found a good deal on a new 7x20’ trailer with a steel deck, dual 5.2K axles for a weighted load of 10.4K. $5900 including a spare tire, rear jacks, and slide out ramps. It will work for my needs.

Nice find. From the pics it looks pretty clean. I believe the MX will fill that up pretty easily.

looks like you got GREAT value for your 'coin redistribution' .

Please be REAL CAREFUL when you lower your tailgate the first time !!!!!
Guy next door didn't.....ooopsy...

You may look into adding backup lights....
I'm convinced everyone who builds trailers has never ever backed up an unlit , narrow gravel driveway ,with steep slopes, hauling a full load at 2 in the morning......

Very nice trailer for a very good price, and perfect for your MX. I'll take a steel decked trailer over a wood one any day. I'll eventually upgrade my MidSota when the wood is shot.

One of the great things with steel decks is that it's much easier to move stuff around on them such as pallets with heavy loads. When you have the load where you want it you strap or chain it down. Add in the fact that it'll last forever it's a win/win. Of course, the lack of friction can be problematic if you don't secure the load properly, but who does that?! ;)

Maybe you could just add diamond plate over the wood decking?

I'd remove the wood entirely and use countersunk machine screws to secure the plate to the frame.

Not trying to ruin the mood, but wouldn't you subtract weight of trailer from the 10.4K?
Weighted load (Trailer load capacity) would then be around 7K.
I have a similar size trailer with 5k axles that weighs 3600lbs empty. My tractor with loader, loaded rear tires weighs 6800lbs. Without implements my trailer is overloaded. I am debating getting a trailer with 7K axles. I don't trailer the tractor often so not sure if I should spend the $$$ to upgrade or take the loader off when I take the tractor to the dealer.

You are correct. The trailer weighs around 2500#, resulting in a capacity of 7900#. Perfect for my 6000# MX and an implement.

Often forgotten when calculating the actual 'payload', is that all the tongue weight(typically 10-15% ) can be subtracted from the trailer as the truck is carrying it.
say trailer is rated for 10K capacity, it weighs in at 2K, ,so 8K payload but tongue has 1K on it...now you can have an actual 9K payload..least that's how the RV trailer guys here in Ontario do it...(according to their guv approved yellow tags ).

BTW I'd like to here that BOTH axles have brakes ( Not a legal requirement here, sadly...)

The DOT sticker here in the states indicates payload. Which is the amount above curb weight. Total (GVWR) includes the tongue weight. So a 7k GVWR trailer can have 6k on the axles and 1k on the tongue or 4k on the axles and 3k on the tongue. Either way, the weight of the trailer is maxed out. Tongue is not subtracted from axle weight.
The big trailer I have has 7.5k axles and the tires are 4050 lb rated but the GVWR is 13k. The little ones tag is attached. Tires, axles and GVWR top out at 7k.
