Want to pull some logs using snatch blocks and cable, where is the best place to attach the pull cable to a BX23 without removing the backhoe and bucket?
I've wondered if there was a suitable alternative rear anchor point on my B2650 w/BH. Removing it is too much work, usually just use bucket hooks and chain... If it's an infrequent necessity, have you considered bucket hooks?
The best place to attach a line to any tractor would be the draw bar when skidding in logs. I have used both a B6100 and a newer B2601 to move logs and trees. Keep the cable or chain anchored as low a possible to the tractor but at the same time provide some lift to get the leading end off the ground a few inches. I have found that pulling with the line attached to the bucket puts way to much force on the front axle.
The problem with attaching to a backhoe is that the hoe is not designed for pulling logs. During the skidding process some extreme forces can come into play and put stress on the backhoe that they are not designed for.
Not sure if the BX is setup like the B7100, but I leave a heavy chain with a grab hook attached to the hitch (under the pumpkin) all the time. This puts the attachment point as low on the tractor as possible, which is what you want. It works with the box blade, backhoe, or no implement.
On my BX23S( new last year) ,there's 2 welded 'tiedowns' on the lower BH frame inside of the steps. I'd run a strap, up over ,down and use a clevis to tie the strap eyes to the 'tow line'.
Thanks all. I think Lilfoot and Forester have the best solutions. I'm concerned about the tie down hooks on backhoe as the new BX23 clamp system on the backhoes seems to be a potential weak spot, and the bucket hooks with a quick attach loader seem to have their drawbacks as well. I'll see if I can't get a d-ring on the hitch that maybe can stay attached, if not I'm sure I can find a hoe position to allow at least a temporary attach point. Thanks again!
