Managed to snag the step on my no longer new L3901 yesterday. Bent it back enough it was hitting the rear tire. Jumped up and down on it and pryed it mainly back with a tree limb to get it off the tire. Figured it would be an inexpensive part to replace. Boom!!! -$190 plus shipping for the little stamped sheetmetal piece. Thats more than double what I was expecting. Looks like the old one will have to do. :devilish:

I feel your pain. And to make it worse $190 is less than the KTAC deductible. 😢. I had a oops 2 weeks ago on my orange monster. KTAC is picking most of it up…they are great. Nothing hurts more than pride…I’ve had kidney stones, appendicitis, broken bones, and 3 ACL surgeries. Nothing is worse than bruised pride. Have a good day.

Gosh Dan, given your description of the part, $155 is still obviously in ouch territory.

Is it something you can repair/build back better than it was before?

You could call it your Lee Majors step….;)

The same part for a B2601 costs $35. It's not a big deal and can be pulled back to more or less original with a come-a-long. I was simply flabbergasted by the price. Its very vulnerable and I am sure they get bent often. The hydraulic block on the other side is just as vulnerable and a lot messier if you snag it. This WILL motivate me to build a skid plate for it. Kubota should do that standard but of course this is an "economy" model. :devilish:

Absolutely. Sounds like a ridiculous price.

I have noted many tractors of many manufacturers have what look like some vulnerable placement of filters and other hydraulic components.

Was at a very large consignment auction couple weeks ago. Probably 50-75 compact tractors of various types and ages.

Common theme among the new ones, irrespective of color.

Except for some hoses, my 1953 MM is much more bulletproof in that respect.

Even though I’m careful with my BX and do use a skid plate, I had a bent up HST filter a few years ago.

My HST fan was still intact the last check this spring.

I have no idea if it will fit your L3901, but I am willing to sell my used L48 step (some paint missing) for $75 plus $10 USPS shipping.
I replaced my stock step with a custom step from Specialty Repairs and Mods (a lot more than $155).
PM me if you are interested.

Another option is these steps. less than $50 a pair

I added a pair to my truck bumper to make it easier to get into the back. I welded some angle iron to the bumper brackets and they have worked well for several years. On the corners i can climb by the tailgate when it is down. The pictures in the ad don't show well that the brackets are at a 90 deg angle to the step and mine are approx 4" taller than what shows so I would guess about the same step as the tractor.

Bill

Another style with the mount horizontal. is made by bully.
