belt squeal every now and then, but a/c is cooling fine. I think something is fixing to go wrong, what can I do to stop the problem, whatever it is?

Check the belt as you would on a car and see if its cracking or showing signs of wear. Maybe be time to replace.
Thanks for the advice, I'll check for cracking. I think I found the problem, in another post I read something about being 1" slack on the long side of the belt and mine was too loose. Tighten the belt and no more sqealing, not enough pressure when compressor kicked on I guess.
