Good evening all - I have now in my possession a wonderful dirty old Barn find. A B6100e with 1600 hours on it.
Here are my findings: Tractor has been sitting for a while. Unknown when it ran last.

Fuel tank was full, and fuel filter container is clear - filter looks good.
Radiator appears dry.
Air filter looks new
Pulled the oil dipstick out and immediately oil came rushing out of the hole. Oil was black but not milky.
strange. - pressure in the crankcase? don't know.
"breather tube" is unrestricted.
Went and got a set of keys and a new battery.
Pretty excited.
Lights work, glow plugs appear to work, electrical seems to check out.
Starter went clank hard - motor would not turn over. tried again several times. wont budge.
Pretty not excited.
removed fan belt- fan spins freely.

Looking for advice on next steps before I pull the radiator and put a large pipe wrench on the drive shaft and try and manually turn the motor over to free it up like some kid I saw on youtube....seems like a bad idea?

thanks in advance for your help and direction. I'm not a mechanic but I'm handy with a wrench and willing to give it a go.

Maybe pull the glow plugs or injectors out just in case theres oil in the upper cylinders.

I would probably get the head off of it and see what the cylinders look like.

You can always just pull the glow plugs out and pour some Marvel Mystery Oil or something similar and let it soak for some time and then see if it will turn by hand.

Do NOT put the glow plugs back in until it is spinning and you can remove the oil on top of the cylinders by turning the engine over with the starter and ejecting it out of the glow plug holes. You can bend the rods if you leave oil on top of the pistons.

The oil shot out of the motor because the bottom of the pan is filled with what should be in the radiator.

My bet was it overheated and cracked the head and now all of the water/ coolant is in the block.

DO NOT turn the crank with a pipe wrench, you will do more damage!

Pull the plug on the oil pan and drain it, bet there is water/ coolant.
If there is, you will need to pull the head.

FYI: the faun pulley is the Dynamo, these engines do not have water pumps.

I'd approach a bit more positive.
Since you know the crankcase is way over filled with 'something', I'd drain it, refill with inexpensive oil that you'll use at best, half a hour before you change it again to flush out impurities or worst case, delve in to the engine. Remove the glow plugs.Crank it, what comes out? Water? Top off the radiator with water, wait, crank the engine, does the water come out and the radiator low or is there a pool of water on the ground from a popped welch plug/cracked hose or split radiator?
At this point, you should have a decent idea of what really needs to be done and can 'do the math' to determine if you want the commitment. Like a wife, may not be pretty at first but a little loving can get that glow on.

Ok fellas, thanks for all the quick help.
here is the update:
I pulled the oil drain plug - out came loads of water followed by the oil. sure enough.
pulled off the air filter housing and oil was dripping out of the in the rubber tube/manifold.
Pulled out the glow plugs. the tips of front most plug was wet with oil. When I pulled the second (middle) glow plug, water came gushing out. yum.
Third (rear) was relatively clean.

I refilled the oil and went to turn the engine over (glow plugs still out) and got the same result - Clunk goes the starter and nothing budges. I picked up some Marvel Mystery Oil and can try that.

Radiator is dry on the inside. Haven't filled it back up with water yet.

Can you turn the engine by hand (without brute force)?

Water in one cylinder most likely means the engine is seized, the piston rusted in. So that means the head has to come off.

I can’t budge it. Tried turning it via the fan blade and also carefully putting some vice grips on the drive shaft. Won’t move.
Would love some recommendations on next steps. Rebuild kits, or good resources for that process. May try it myself or get someone else to.

Your first move should have been to bar the engine over by hand with the glow plugs removed. You can easily bend rods if the engine is waterlogged or seized.

At this point, pull the head to assess the damage. Good Luck!

Pull the head and post some pictures of what you find.
Also take some pictures of the cylinder side of the head.
