My question to you all is does my plan of action make sense for the problem i am encountering?

When rotating the wheel its mostly gone where 27 (the arm? Connected to the knuckle) doesn’t move except on the extreme far left or far right. Upon initial inspection nut 26 was finger loose. I suspect that in someway i damaged the steering and have stripped something in the ‘steering box’. It’s in quotes because i see other folks reference to several parts which together make the ‘box’. Various threads have folks breaking down the tractor to that level and looking for what’s stripped.

My plan of action is to strip the tractor down from the top and then remove the steering (if i can) and inspect it for what’s broken. Then replace just those parts. However i see three issues that are contributing to my issue.

  1. Steering wheel has an open ‘cap’, allowing rain/water to creep in there which seems to be a known issue for this tractor.
    1. Need a cap or replace the steering wheel
  2. Part 27 has a LOT of slop, inspecting the drawing i should have a nut to keep that tighter. Prior to looking at the diagram it appeared to be a ‘ball’ style joint.
    1. Inspect/Tighten/replace nut 29 and pin
  3. Tighten nut 26. Inspect for washer.
    1. I have the workshop service manual for my tractor and just going to tighten best my abilities.

I may have that steering box. It is from a B8200 gear drive machine. I removed the box and built a powering steering setup for it years ago.

I got on Ebay and found a guy in Florida who parted out mowing machines. Bought the hydraulic valve, cylinder, hoses and steering wheel for a couple hundred dollars. Little bit of fabing and it worked better than the system Kubota sold back then. This is what I would do today even if it cost 4 times what I paid. It was flawless.

Could you provide a list of parts and sources? I have a geared B8200 with loose steering and I'd love to change it over to power streering for not too much money!
